Stitched up Wrist!

Welcome to another Mehron Synwax creation, I thought I'd create something a little more gory this time! This would be perfect for something like Halloween (just make sure to use an adhesive and sealer as the wax is prone to slipping and sliding all over the place if not!) I hope you enjoy this looks guys and have fun recreating it :) .

The Finished Look!

What you'll need:

Mehron SynWax

Mehron Sprirt gum and Spirit gum remover

Vaseline

Random brushes, Plastic Spatula and
 BenNye Bruise Wheel

Bloodymarvellous Light and Thick
blood

Random Triangle Sponges

Step One:

First apply a thin layer of spirit gum to the place you are going to create the effect on. Then tap it lightly to help it become tacky. Then using a plastic or metal spatula scrape out some of the wax and take the wax making sure to coat your fingers lightly with Vaseline (and I mean lightly to much Vaseline will just create a horrible sticky mess which is a nightmare to work with!) and start to warm the wax in your fingers making sure to get rid of any lumps in the wax which will ruin the smoothness of it later. Once the lumps have been blended out with your fingers roll the wax into a sausage shape to the correct length and apply it to the tacky spirit gum (if the spirit gum has dried just apply a little more and allow to become tacky).



Step Two:

Then coating your spatula lightly with Vaseline start to blend the wax into the wrist trying to get the edges as thin as possible so they blend into the skin seamlessly. Keep blending and reapplying Vaseline to the spatula until you are happy with the final result.

Step Three:

Once you are happy with how the wax is blended, use end of the spatula to carefully create a slit in the middle of the wax, pull out the excess wax and start to smooth some of the rough edges of wax. Try to make sure the cut is a little jaggered. Now would also be a great time to apply a sealer if you plan on wearing this out as this will help keep the wax in place and will also help the Vaseline to not effect the staying power of the cream colours and blood later on. If you don't have a sealer, tissue off the excess Vaseline being careful not to ruin the wax structure. 

Step Four:

Then using a mixture of the dark blue and red/brown from the Ben Nye bruise wheel, use a thin brush to start painting this into the inside of the cut making sure to get in all the edges to create depth. Then applying the lighter red from the bruise wheel start to stipple and sponge this in and around the cut to create the effect the skin is irritated. Keep doing these steps until you are happy with the result. (At this point you can also colour match the wax to your skin colour before adding the other colours if it doesn't match already, I didn't bother as it matched pretty well to my sisters wrist.)

Step Five:

Then taking the dark blood from Bloodymarvellous apply this into the inside of the cut, and then using the light blood use this to fill the cut to create a dripping effect. This helps to create different textures as the thicker darker blood will stay in the side of the cut and the lighter blood will mover around more. To create a messier effect stipple the blood all around the cut in a random manner. You can stop here if you like the effect of the wrist not being 'stitched'.





Step Six:

Then using thick black thread cut it into little strips big enough for stitches. To apply these push each end on the thread very carefully into the wax and then recover with the wax to make it look like the thread is in the skin. Keep doing this until the whole wound is 'stitched'.

Step Seven:

I found that as I was applying the stitches the excess Vaseline was causing the cream colours and blood to spilt away from the Vaseline making the colour much lighter, this is why in an earlier step I mention using a sealer or to tissue off excess Vaseline as this will prevent this from happening. To correct this I just added more colour and blood. You can also use the sealer again now to seal the final colours and stitches in place for a longer wearing time.

Step Seven:

To remove just carefully use the spatula to scrape off the wax and stitches and then using a makeup remover, wipe off the blood and cream colours. Scrape off any leftover wax after this and then using the spirit gum remover on a cotton-wool bud swipe this over where you place the spirit gum making sure to remove it all and then wash with water.

Arm Laceration!

So the other day my Mehron SynWax arrived in the mail and I had to start playing with it straight away! It was relatively easy to use, a little sticky like most waxes but that was easily over come with some Vaseline. So here's the outcome of my first little play with the wax. I hope you guys enjoy!

What you'll need: 

Mehron - Spirit Gum and Remover

Step one: 

Apply a small strip of spirit gum on to the place you want the lasceration to be, remember to tap the spirit gum so it becomes sticky. Whilst the spirit gum is tacky, use your spatula to scoop out a small amount of wax. Then coating your finger tips lightly with vaseline take the wax and mold it into a sausage shape, making sure there are no lumps in the wax. Then place the sausage shape of wax onto the spirit gum and then light coat your spatula with Vaseline and while holding down the wax strip start to use the spatula to blend down the edges of the wax so it blend seamlessly into your real skin. Keep blending and reapplying Vaseline to the spatula or your fingers until you are happy with how the wax is blended.

I blended the wax a little more after this photo was taken.

 Next take the pointed end of the spatula and making sure to be careful, slice down the wax to create a wound shape and remove the inside wax until you're happy with the result.

Step Two:

Using the dark blue from the Ben Nye bruise wheel fill the inside of the cut and then taking the dark brown/red go over the blue to help create depth.

Then taking the lighter red from the bruise wheel, use this around the edges and top of the cut and then taking a sponge or using your fingers blend out the red so the skin looks angry and inflamed, be careful not to misshape the wax when doing this!

Then using the yellow from the wheel, very lightly using a sponge dab this around the skin to create a light bruising effect.

Step Three:

Next take the thick/dark blood and use this to fill the wound, and then taking a sponge stipple some of the blood around the wound.

Then taking the light blood fill the wound so it overflows a little and then using the same sponge as before stipple this blood around the wound until you're happy with the result.

Then take two small pieces of the siliglass and place these into the cut using your fingers or tweezers, and adjust accordingly.

Step Four: 

Removal! Like the previous tutorial this is really easy to remove. First remove the siliglass pieces and wipe them off with a makeup wipe so they can be used again. Next using another makeup wipe, wipe away the blood and cream colours. Then start to carefully scrape away the wax with the spatula, this may take a while! Then once the wax is removed use the spirit gum remover on a cotton wool bud and wipe away the spirit gum, making sure you get rid of all of it.

Creating a Decaying Zombie!

Here's the first of my special effects make up looks, a Decaying Zombie. This look took me around 3 hours to complete and gave me the chance to work with lots of new materials.
Here's the step-by-step method of how I created the look and also the materials I used to create the look. I hope you enjoy the final look!

p.s excuse the backgrounds of the photos, it was hard to find lighting that showed the colours :P

Step One:

Place the bald cap on your model/self and mark out where you need to cut the cap to fit. Once this has been decided very carefully cut out where you have marked. To help get the placement around the ears cut from the lobe of the ear to the tip and the bald cap should ping into place behind your ear, but adjust if needed.
Next with the bald cap placed on your head, peel the sides back and apply and thin strip of the spirit gum on your head where the edge of the bald cap will be. Make sure to tap the spirit gum so it becomes tacky, and then once tacky stick down one side of the bald cap first and then pulling the other side of the cap taught stick that side down too. Then press the bald cap down to help it stick for about a minute.
After a few minutes, take a traingle sponge and apply a small amount of liquid latex to it and then stipple the latex on the edge of the bald cap where it meets your skin, making sure to keep it randomly placed and not to thick to help blend the cap into your skin better. Keep applying more layers until you are happy with the way the bald cap has been blended into your skin. Make sure to let each layer of liquid latex dry before you apply the next layer and you can use a hair dryer on the cool setting to help make this process go quicker.

Step Two:

Next start to apply liqiud latex to parts of the face where you want to create cuts/lacerations. Build up several layers using the triangle sponge, making sure to keep the edges thin. Then start to colour the bald cap using the Ben Nye Death Wheel using a all four different sponges and all the colours in the wheel stippling them on the bald cap and skin until you are happy with the effects, textures and colours.

I applied more latex onto this to help the cap blend better and then coloured it again.

Step Three:

Once you have the bald cap, face and neck coloured, start to add dark colours around the eyes using the 3 darkest colours in the naked basics palette and the purple, blue and the dark red/brown in the Ben Nye master bruise wheel. Keep the reddy colours around the lid, inner corners and in the lash line of your eye and use the browns and blues around the inner corners and bags of the eyes. Also use the reds and browns around the side of your nose and mouth.

Next using the plastic spatula or a pair of tweezers, carefully start to pull open the latex patches you put on the face earlier, peeling back the side to create a wound shape. To colour the wounds first use the dark brown/red in the master bruise wheel with a small brush to colour the whole of the wound, then take the lighter red and paint around the outside of the wound blending it out with a sponge. Keep doing this until you are happy with the outcome. Next apply the thick/dark liquid blood inside theses wounds filling them and then use the lighter blood to stipple around the wound and to overfill the wound so it creates running droplets of blood.

Next apply the mehron tooth colours, by first drying off your teeth with a piece of tissue and then painting both the decay and black colours on to create a mottled effect on the teeth. Make sure to let the paint dry before letting it get wet again. 

Step Four:

Removal! This is really easy, first just carefully pull the latex wounds off the skin and throw them away, then taking your choice of makeup remover (I recommend wipes), start to remove the fake blood, cream colours and eyeshadow. Once that is removed peel back the rest of the latex around the bald cap, then taking the spirit gum remover on a cotton wool bud, carefully move it along and under the bald cap where you placed the spirit gum and start to removed the glue bit by bit. Once most of the glue is removed peel off the bald cap and then go over the place where you put the spirit gum and use the remover over it again, making sure all the spirit gum has been removed. Then just cleanse and wash your face and the makeup should be all gone.
